I study physical, political and computational systems — mostly where they turn out to be the same one.

Direction

The questions I care about do not respect the borders between departments. How complicated behaviour comes out of simple rules. How power arranges itself and then calls the arrangement natural. How anything comes to know anything at all.

Breadth first, depth after. On purpose. The cost is looking unfocused for about a decade, and I have decided that is affordable.

I went back to mathematics at twenty-nine, after most of a life certain I could not. That certainty was a bad measurement, not a fact.
